Title: A word of warning on the latest Windows 10 update (1803)
Post by: DaveMorton on May 13, 2018, 17:41:27 PM
Sometime mid-week, I got an automatic update for Windows (as I usually do), but of late, I've noticed that it's broken several of my apps and programs, from Adobe's Creative Cloud suite (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc.) to Norton Security. As a result, I've had to perform a rollback to the 1709 version, and THEN, reinstall those apps and programs that were affected. I had first tried going back to a previous restore point, but the Windows update DIDN'T MAKE ONE! {sigh!} back to M$ and their shenanigans. :sign-sad:

Ah seems I'm not the only one, my speakers no longer want to work since the update installed yesterday although my new gaming headphones plugged in by USB work fine.

Haven't found a solution as of yet either

*Update edit* I've got the sound working on my TV (Monitor) which will do for now anyway, I'll figure it out at some point, although the drivers are all up to date so not sure what's going on but it was fine before the update.

DD, it sounds like Windows has set the default audio to HDMI, you probably need to change it back to "speakers", use Google to find out how to change the default audio.

I remember the update installing, I can notice a few changes but the audio has stayed the same.

I'll have a play around later on, it's fine for now.

I didn't think of clicking show disabled devices, I'll give that try, cheers Data  :D

*Edit* Its showing as disconnected, think I need to get back under the desk and have a mess around with the connections see if I took it out at some point, maybe I was using the TV after all before and it knocked it off when the update went through, good excuse to get the tower out and have a good clean up while I'm at it.

Well the speakers are up and running again (and the inside of my PC is cleaner than it been in a long time.

Down side is that the sound is plain horrible, really muffled and bassy for some reason.

Sounds like you need to reconfigure your speakers, either with the software or maybe check the speaker connections. I don't know what speakers you have but it's quite possible that the woofer is working but not the surround speakers.
