Yeah you read it correctly, Windows 11 is coming, maybe even this year.
What it looks like:

Looks nifty, but for some unspecified reason the compatibility check said my PC can't run it.

Get the same message on my new Ryzen :scratch-head:
I suspect that it could be SSD space on C: drive, I only have 17 GIG free.
It is available for download here but I'll wait till later before doing the download.

I have 67GB spare, so that's not my issue. Too early to rely on it I reckon.

Yup, I won't be updating it until it's been out a while. If even then - I'm not sure really, that video seems to say that it is mainly cosmetic changes.

Yeah the Health Check doesn't seem to be working great as both our PC's do measure up to the minimum specs.
I certainly won't be up-dating until Win 11 is officially released and I've seen some more reviews but I will up-date at some point.
The ability to run Android apps without an emulator is quite a nice feature even if it's only apps from the Amazon store
EDIT:
MS have updated the win 11 check - it now shows why a PC isn't compatible.
Uninstall the old version and install the new one, obviously :)
Mine is the lack of space on C: drive.
Thanks for the heads up. My reason is that the processor isn't supported.
So I won't be updating.
Quote from: Freddy on June 26, 2021, 12:11:48 PM
My reason is that the processor isn't supported.
Again I suspect that your CPU will be supported - it is quite a niche CPU and probably hasn't been added to the check list yet, it is easily fast enough.
Yes I think you are right, it's a few months to go after all.
I've been doing a bit more research on Win 11 hardware requirements and things are not as straight forward as I originally thought, without going into to too much detail PC's older than 5 years will probably not be able to run the new OS as they don't support the security standards required. MS might change this in the future but don't hold your breath.
Have my PC ready to go now but wasn't just the C: drive space.
I enlarged my C: drive to 64 GIG (using the built in windows disk manager), run the win 11 check again and it failed to pass, this time saying TPM2.0 (https://trustedcomputinggroup.org/resource/tpm-library-specification/) was not enabled.
Going into the BIOS I found TPM disabled - I enabled it and looks like I'm good to go.
It's looking like older PC's will have to stay on win 10 and MS are saying win 10 will be retired in 2025 (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-57443598), of course this might change but I feel the clock is ticking.
Two more pics of my win 11 journey.
I don't mind. This PC is still fine.
It's 6 years and 4 days old now 8)
I had thought it would be good to get five years out of it. I don't think I want the hassle of building one, I'll probably get a custom build made when I replace it, but that's not going to be soon - probably from Mesh Computers though.

One mans hassle is another mans joy ;) but I see where you are coming from :)
Windows 10 has been by far the best MS OS to date IMHO, good performance and pretty rock solid.
I'm interested now in the performance of win 11, is it better or worse than win 10, early benchmarks are showing the same performance on both OS's.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mT-q2nNxAc
Like I said, to me it did look mainly cosmetic from that earlier video.
If it ain't broken...
Well there is no rush, win 10 still has 4 years left after all.
I want to use and learn win 11, I believe it is progress not just cosmetic. MS are pushing PC gaming with Win 11.
QuoteMicrosoft has detailed how Windows 11 is built for gamers with new improvements such as DirectX 12 Ultimate, Direct Storage, and Auto HDR (high dynamic range.) The company is committed to gaming and says that it's a core part of Windows 11, which is expected to ship later this year.
Windows 11 is built for gamers (https://www.windowscentral.com/windows-11-gaming-announcements)
I know some of this will be hype but there is a real push for improvements in gaming and Apps going on under the hood.
Hey, we will all be using it one day :D
Save yourself some money and frustration - just buy an Xbox One X ;D ;)
Does 4K, has HDR, has most of the big games. Costs way less than a Gaming PC and developers will know it better inside out over an esoteric gaming build.
I started to download their program to see how well my computer might be suited for the transition over to W11. After viewing all the Privacy issues and such, it made me refuse their requirement to examine and use any / all of my personal data/info as they deemed fit.
Really? Just to see if my computer qualifies? I call BS! If you're not buying a product, then you ARE the product!
And they wonder why people turn to Linux-based machines. Then again, those poor folks end up beating their heads trying to get Windows-based programs to run in a non-windows environment (with Wine or some other emulator). Yeah...go figure.

Nah, game consoles are for part time gamers mate, can't really mod games on an egg box, simples ;D
We get this every time a new version of windows comes out, the haters keep hating until they finally give in and go with the flow of a newer, better OS. I expect nothing else. :D
I avoided making the choice by just buying both :D
It will be a long time before I get to windows 11, I just finished working on the newer computer and still have to go back to the old HP where the monitor has a problem, it will give Microsoft time to fix anything.
Carl2
Same for me really. I was musing over this kind of thing though:
https://www.meshcomputers.com/custom-gaming-pcs/intel-10th-generation-pcs/elite-3060-super/
But it can wait.
If nothing else you should seriously look at AMD and the Ryzen CPU's, did you see the benchmarks in the video I posted, the Ryzen is fastest in just about every test, it's also a more efficient CPU and takes less power - that was against an 11th gen i7 too.
Have another look.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mT-q2nNxAc
EDIT:
Just going to add that this is a really bad time to build or buy a new PC, there is a world-wide chip shortage and the price of GPU's is utterly silly right now.
Yes, I was looking at Ryzen too
I'm not going to build or buy a new PC at the moment, unless this one goes belly up.
I noticed today that in Windows 10 device manager I have a new component in security devices "Trusted Platform Module 2.0".
Obviously this has appeared because I enabled TPM in the Bios.
It could also be a way to help determine if your PC can run windows 11, if you have it showing in your device manager.
I just came across a Win 11 update on the internet, I think it said there is special issue you can get but it could be missing things not released yet, there is also the TMP that I may not have for the HP but there are work arounds you can buy to will work and led you put Win 11 in. For now I'll use the old windows 10 download I saved on a flash drive.
Carl2
Too early to tell really I think. I mentioned elsewhere that they aren't offering the compatibility tool now. So they are probably dealing with no end of enquiries I bet!
I've already given up on getting a download of the new AI that is out there. I still have to wait for the PS to arrive for the HP and should be here 7-12 to 7-15 then I'll put in Win 10. For some reason the display on the newer computer seems different than that which showed on the HP and I have to get used to it. I was able to remove some scanning software that cause pop ups to appear which helps a lot.
Carl2
I just found out that windows 11 has a dark theme mode, looks much better than the default theme to me.
Yep, I will be using dark mode.
Win 11 had said it will make things faster, a selling point that they were unable to do.
Carl2
I expected it to have dark mode since 10 has it too. Cool

I downloaded the new version and passed the test.

You should be able to enable secure boot in the boot options in BIOS, hopefully windows will start as normal. :fingers-crossed:
Yes I did have a quick look. Busy at the moment though
I'm going to wait till the Oct fifth deadline the TPM is working but I also have to enable secure boot. I guess we no longer will have passwords and I wonder how that works. Speech recognition has come a long way and it would be nice if we could use that and also there is Alexa that could improve things, I wonder how many years it will take before that will be used.

I haven't been using passwords with Windows 10 since its release, no big deal and Windows boots quicker.
MS already tried speech recognition with Cortana. I never used her, it was just a novelty to me.
Most of my pass words are stored in in the computer but I do keep records of the passwords in notepad.

I just found a Bootable USB drive with win 11 on it, since it saves me from trying to get through Microsoft i bought it. Really so tired of the problems I had trying to get it from the Microsoft account it is worth it to me Windows 11 OS install /Bootable 16GB USB Drive for Legacy & UEFI Compatible $38.22. So having a problem throw money at it, something people would say about the US spending money to solve a problem.
Carl2
I would have thought installing windows from a USB flash drive would require an activation key code to be purchased at some point.
Where as doing the upgrade would transfer your windows key from 10 to 11.
Might have to throw more money at it.
I've looked in the computer for the activation key code but haven't been able to find one. I would think the bootable drive would behave similar to the Microsoft download software and do the same transfer from 10 to 11. The product is guaranteed insured for a year, I had just read online that a lot of people are unhappy with the Microsoft experience as I am. Maybe in 3 or 4 months time the traffic at Microsoft will settle down and things will work better but for now I want to avoid dealing with Microsoft. I feel like I got scammed by Restro and I'm going to ask the bank not to pay them.

Saw this today:
Windows 11 doesn't play nicely with AMD Ryzen processorsQuoteWindows 11 is finally here, but anyone rocking a PC or laptop powered by an AMD Ryzen processor would probably be best advised to hold off on pressing that update button.
AMD has issued notification of a 'Windows 11 Performance Variation in Certain Applications on Compatible AMD Processors' over on its support pages.
The company, along with Microsoft, has "determined that compatible AMD processors may exhibit reduced performance in certain applications when running Windows 11". It seems Windows 11 is causing L3 cache latency to triple in Ryzen chips.
https://www.trustedreviews.com/news/windows-11-doesnt-play-nicely-with-amd-ryzen-processors-4171646
I've heard it said online that many people were unhappy with with win 11 but AMD versions were not mentioned. So my comments on the video would be he speaks rather quickly but does put in a lot of info, it helps to go to full screen when watching. I guess Microsoft is doing the download world wide which quite an undertaking. Once again we are hit with the latest and greatest. I'm doing every thing I can to stay out of the Microsoft download and purchased a bootable USB drive to upgrade.

Yes I watched a video about that this morning, it seems they will have to make a patch to work with Ryzen's large amount of cache, I'm sure it will get sorted out.
Yes they are bound to if they know what's good for them ;D
I doubt I will upgrade until the new year anyway.

As I had mentioned somewhere to discontinue trying to work with Microsoft I had ordered a $38.22
Windows 11 OS install /Bootable 16GB USB Drive for Legacy & UEFI Compatible
You should get it by Oct 16. Available at E Bay
I should think it would be similar the the Microsoft download and get updates as required.
I find it impossible to work with Microsoft and wish you guys luck but thinking it is a world wide project it must be so difficult
Carl2
All I can say at present is that my Windows 10 is not broken, ergo, I'm not going to Fix it!! ;D
Take your time I think Microsoft is going to support win 10 till 2025 but the computer I' d think will still continue working. I still have some CD's being shipped to me that are taking a very long time to get to me.
Carl2
I just installed Win 11 in the Asrock computer, I had bought a Win 11 flash drive from E bay and it was a quick and easy. All down loads and documents were still in the computer after install so really nothing to worry about loosing anything in the computer at least with with the flash drive. I had spent a lot of time at the Microsoft site and got no where.
Carl2
For those who have already installed or are thinking about installing Windows 11 keep in mind that it is not any more secure than Windows 10 or Windows 7.
With that in mind, it is not the Windows 11 at fault but rather the never-ending group of cretins that seek out every crack, flaw, and potential weakness in the OS itself, with the intent of doing harm.
Buyer or User beware!

Yep!
Noticed that AMD had made some patch, but accidentally cleared it before seeing exactly what they did.
Here we go: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-posts-first-official-fix-for-windows-11-bugs
The problem with not upgrading is that you get left using an operating system that gets less and less patches until it becomes very unsafe to use, no one who goes online should be using windows 7 these days.
The wise thing to do would be to give MS a while to patch the Win 11 bugs found and then install it, I certainly don't want to be left behind using an old OS. Windows 10 isn't dead yet but in time it will be just like all the other windows versions.
Well I've been using Windows 11 for a while, as I have stated I bought a USB drive two install windows 11, sooner or later I would expect there would be an update. I had been pretty upset with the Microsoft site to install windows 11 but the operating system I think is just great and have not encountered any problems. No rush do it in your own good time.
Carl 2
The Ryzen bug has now been fixed and there are some interesting results coming from Win 11.
Windows 11 load time is a bit longer than 10.
Windows 11 has a performance boost of up to 5% over 10 in some games.
Windows 11 has a huge performance increase on SSD's (random read and writes).
It's looking good to go with some real performance improvements over 10 but does take a bit longer to boot.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=av7D5YPpbow
Latest thing I have heard about Microsoft windows 11 was that there was a problem with File Explorer not working correctly. Not sure but to me it would seem that boot time is about the same.
Carl 2
After some alterations to the file system my PC is ready for 11.
Might do that soon.
I'm going to leave it for another couple of months or so, been hearing reports of some more minor bugs found that need attention, there is also a bug come to light regarding SSD slowdowns, especially effecting Samsung M.2 drives.
https://youtu.be/Ah0MFQFlTPg
As there is no rush to upgrade might be wise to hold fire.
Yes, I'll stick too then.
What do we think of this?: https://www.pcworld.com/article/559932/windows-11-slow-ssd-performance-fix-update.html
Refers to the fix here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/topic/november-22-2021-kb5007262-os-build-22000-348-preview-7f3e18d7-4189-4882-b0e9-afc920253aee
QuoteAddresses an issue that affects the performance of all disks (NVMe, SSD, hardisk) on Windows 11 by performing unnecessary actions each time a write operation occurs. This issue occurs only when the NTFS USN journal is enabled. Note, the USN journal is always enabled on the C: disk.
They have certainly found a lot of bugs and fixed them.
I would be happy to install 11 now but I'm not doing it until I've moved, mostly because I have a few e-mail conversations/threads that I want to keep track of.
Some of the gaming FPS scores on 11 are well ahead of 10 now. so there is a real reason to up-grade for me.
I'm going to give it a whirl then, wish me luck.
Good luck mate, I'm off out for a drive ;)
It's better 8)
11 seems a bit snappier and LOTRO works which is the main thing.
Hope you enjoyed your drive.
I watch a lot of hardware videos on YouTube, win 11 is now the goto OS for testing, it's the beginning of the end for win 10.
Glad the install went well 8)
One thing I was concerned about was Unity and the Wars of Midnight project - but I just updated Unity and checked it and all is fine.
Hopefully the stuff on XAMPP will be okay too.
XAMPP is working fine
It's only been a few hours using it, but it is a nice improvement. The UI has been reworked and looks nicer than it used to. They've given a lot of things rounded borders which look nice I think. And they have updated the icons.
Things like the Window file explorer are tidier - using icons in place of some things that were text. They've also separated list items a little more too. It's all easier on the eye.
The new widgets panel is a nice touch too. All tidy and compact. You have an extra desktop tab too.
Dark mode is so much cooler too.
Have you got webmail Data? I was thinking you could forward the important emails to that if you are keen to upgrade.
I'm happy that dark mode is ultra cool, of course I will be using that 8)
I could just save the e-mails to a drive but it's the way they are kept in the conversation that would be lost, there is also some quite sensitive info in there to do with 2 houses, I'm just not going to risk it, I know it would probably be fine but just in case.
