Title: F1 2011 Developer Diary - Release Date
Post by: Data on May 07, 2011, 16:23:21 PM
The release date for "F1 2011 the game" has been announced by Codemasters.

         23rd September 2011

You can already pre-order the game, for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation and PC, though at the moment I can't find it for the PC on Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004W1TNLK/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=datahopacom-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B004W1TNLK).

Codemasters have started a competition offering gamers the chance to be some of the first in the world to play F1 2011 ahead of its release.

There isn't much content available, that I can find, on the web about this game right now "7th May", which seems a little strange when you consider its release really isn't that far away.
Lets hope they have enough time to beta test it sufficiently.

This YouTube link will point to "F1 2011 developer diary", one to keep an eye on.

I had to do it, have pre ordered this game on Steam, got the 10% discount and the game is downloading as I type this.

Apparently it will unlock on the 23rd, just 2 days to go. :yahoo: :driving:

* Dave, it's a street circuit. The arrows on the road are for the day traffic.

* Data, you do realise you'd be black flagged for the way you take that dodgy chicane. Not to mention being in the wall if it was a real car.

Looking like a cool game. Not sure about the new style racing line with the 3D bits but I suppose you can always turn it off.

I think Dave was joking about the direction I was going

So Snowy I would have been black flagged for going over a kerb?
Hmm not sure about that mate, kerbs are a legal part of the race track, so use them, and you can in this game.  :P

@ the racing line. In the game you have the option of a 2D or 3D racing line, or none its up to you.

You should get this game Snowy, a huge improvement over the last one but I tell you what, it really keeps you bizzy, KERS and DRS buttons on top of what we had in F1 2010.  :driving:

Well it would seem that Codemasters are up to their old tricks again and have released a game that is full of bugs on all platforms.

Quite unbelievable how they think they can get away with it, the community aren't going to forget it, we were stung with a game that was buggy has hell with F1 2010, did they learn their lesson and release a playable game with F1 2011?

Simple answer no.

Here is a link to the F1 2011 - Tech & Game Support forum, if you've got this game you are going to need it.

Not made by me but I liked this video of crashes in F1 2011, does show off the game physics quite well.

I had to watch that a couple of times, just to catch enough detail, and I'm sure I've missed a lot, even so.

First off, that game has some great physics - without a doubt the best I've seen so far. That said, though, there were a few things that I noticed that actually detracted a bit from the experience, overall:

1.) The front wing looked as if it "ghosted" through the front portion of the monocoque in a couple of the crashes, passing through the assembly, with both the wing and the nosepiece remaining in "one piece".
2.) That front nosepiecs seems to be awfully tough; too tough, in some crashes. Those things are designed IRL to absorb the energy of a collision, which means they are supposed to crumple and deform much more than the game allows for.
3.) In some of those wrecks, there seemed to be more loose tires (or is it tyres, over there?) flying around than could be accounted for. Perhaps they come from more damage that's occurring outside the viewable area, but I'm not sure. The trajectories are too far off to make that a likelihood.

I know, I know. I'm nit-picking again. It's only because I'm jealous, you know. :P

Very nit picky but I think if it wasn't for people spotting things like this then we wouldn't have got to this stage in terms of detail.  Maybe the next version will be more to your liking ;)

You know what it is, I think, as we get closer to real life in games we now see all the things that aren't quite right yet, in time they will get there.

On the positive side, the way the cars react in the crashes, their movement, spinning round ect, is pretty close indeed, to my eyes.

Looks pretty good.

I noticed a couple of other nit picking points. The suspension stays at the angle it would with the wheel on even when the wheel is off. i.e. it doesn't flap around.

At the end some of the wheels go below the track.

But I do like the way the suspension compresses. Looking the best yet but still room for improovement.

I think you're right, Data. The more a game or CGI movie exceeds our expectations, the higher we raise those expectations. It's a viscous cycle, but it does lead to ever greater things. :)

Yes indeed.  I think there's also something else going on too.  Back in the day when it was all kicking off we had to use our imagination to fill in the missing parts.  Sure the cars were blocky but your imagination made up for what was visually lacking and you still enjoyed the game.  I guess it's a bit like how a movie is rarely as good as the book...

And yes, I did have a point...nowerdays are we getting so close to reality that we don't have to imagine so much, and because of that we judge it more in terms of reality ?

I have to admit that my expectations of a game are high these days in terms of the graphics.  When I was a young gamer on my Spectrum I was always an advocate of the game itself being more important than the graphics.  These days I want to be more visually impressed too. Ya know the whole immersion thing, which is so important in the games I like...RPGs, MMORPGs etc.

I hope human imagination is infinite 'cos human stupidity appears to be. We need something to ofset idiots.  ;D

I have read several books I would love to see as films but will prob never be made. One in question is 'Otherland' by Tad Williams (4 X 700odd pages) and is set in VR but also leans toward fantasy.

Why I mention it is in the book there is a meeting set in VR and the visitor can tell the how expensive the VR setup is 'cos he can see reflections in the virtual raindrops. All rendered in realtime. We're still a long way off.
