I've been playing Fallout 3 on and off for about a year now, I think, If you like RPG games its got to be one of the best to date, at least in the top 5 IMHO.

One of the reasons I like it so much is that it's a game that can be modded or added to relatively easily and there are literally hundreds of free add-ons to keep you going.

So ive made this topic to list some sites that have goodies and info about the game and check out the videos I found on YouTube too, if you only see one of them make it the last one.

A good place to start is www.tweakguides.com for info on the game and optimisation tweaks.

HD Tweak
There is an HD graphics up-date that takes the environment quality up and also improves other graphics in the game; if you have a 1 GIG graphics card and a fast PC it might be worth a try.

Download the HD pack here:

Here is a site I found that has hundreds of free Fallout 3 add-ons:

And another:

And here is the essential Fallout 3 Wiki:

I've been working on my own add-on for Fallout 3 over the last couple of days.

Fallout 3 custom Robot Radio Station.

The game has a number of radio stations scattered around the place, they are pretty cool but eventually you get a little tired of them so I went looking for a radio station add-on and was amazed that no one had made one, well I couldn't find one, so I'm making my own, its called Robot Radio, the DJ is a text to speech robotic voice (there are robots in Fallout 3 so its not out of place) and there is a special guest that pops in from time to time and he is the one and only Max Headroom. The music is going to be some of the tracks I've knocked up on the PC so there isn't going to be any copyright problems so I can share it when its finished with other Fallout 3 players.

And Snowcrash I would like you to test it for me at some point.

Here is a little video I made of Robot Radio working in game:

Not been playing Fallout 3 much. Keep getting killed and I've got no ammo.
Post what you have and I'll test it.

Have gone back to Crysis with those bloomin' helecopters  >:(

Sorry I've not been around much, all my spare time has been going into the Radio, Its getting there but I would like to ask you guys for some advice on something,

I decided to not use my music in the game, it doesn't really gel with it, so I thought I would keep with the Fallout 3 style of 1950's big band music, I found a nice collection of songs on Youtube and have recorded them, put them into the radio and they sound great.

My problem being copyright, they are all very old songs most taken from old films, Youtube doesn't have a problem with their copyright and we know how hot they are so do you think it would be ok to use them and give them away with the Radio, all for free?

Im not going to hold you to your word, just your thoughts.  :D

After a little research it appears that after 50 years in most countries you are ok.
It is less problematic if you record a cover version.
There are other laws that put the copyright at 70 years and the UK have extended the 50 year law to 95 years.
link too long
To be on the safe side you would need permission from all artists and/or their estates.
I think most problems arise when/if you start making money from it.
I have found several copyrighted music vids on you tube but all the ones I'm clicking now are giving a server error but I'm getting server error on everything at the mo.

On a side, found this site which may help in choosing titles.

Been reading a little more...

Copyright breaking is a civil law until you make more than 10 copies and earn over $2500 (US not sure about UK) then it becomes criminal.
If you break copyright laws and make no money you can still be sued in civil law but damages awarded will be less.

I think your market is very small (a low % of Fallout 3 gamers) and the chances of getting caught very low. Post annonomously if possible.

Thanks for looking into it Snowcrash, I think im going to use the old 1950's music, I found another site, don't know how I didn't find it before but it seems to be the most popular Fallout 3 mods site:

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/

I noticed that there are radio stations made by others for download there and one of them is using some old music too, he's getting away with it so there is a good chance I will.

Im going to have a working copy ready soon, so will let you know where to get it from for testing for me.

Thanks M8  ;)

Well I think I have this Robot Radio finished, It now contains 20 Robotic DJ sayings and 24 old songs from the 30's. 40's and 50's. In some of the DJ sayings I have also added some old nuclear war propaganda transmissions.

My plan is to up-load it later today and then post a link here. Wish me luck  ;)

Some of this old music has really got me, I mean I actually like it, here is one of the songs that keeps playing in my head.

Freddy

Hehe, it's funny how something old can compliment something new.  Can you save music from YouTube then ?

Data

I know you can download the videos from Youtube with the right tool but I just recorded them as they played using Sound Forge 5, a program I use a lot for editing samples for my music.

Keep listening to this one, it will get ya, im pretty sure.  :D

Ok its done:

Robot Repair Center Radio

A simple radio station transmitting to most of the Wasteland from the robot repair center. Includes A Robotic voice DJ (20 samples) and a collection of old style music (24 songs) to match the game.

The sound quality of the radio is quite low, this is on purpose, I wanted to make it sound like its coming out of a small radio, there is also quite a lot of phasing and static effects to add to the realism.

Background:
The Robots at the robot repair center have got the old pre war robotic radio station transmitter working; they haven't made a very good job of it though, they left in the old adverts that were advertising the sale at the time of the war and a few pre war public information propaganda adverts, also the antenna is damaged making for a weak signal with quite a lot of static, just quite how they managed to get it working again is unknown at this time.

You can download it here but you will have to sign up for a free account.

I have heard 'Ain't that the way it goes' with people singing it.

Prob in an old film somewhere.
