Title: Flight Simulator on a very ordinary PC
Post by: GT40 on August 03, 2015, 15:36:07 PM

Everybody knows that FSX (Steam) needs a 1024X768 screen. That's why I use my little Windows 8.1 machine for it.

Surprise, I've recently read on the web that FS2004 can run with a 1024X600 display! So I tried that (I loaded the 4 CDs) and it works fine on my vintage netbook!

Maybe some other sims could work too? But I must say that my golden age of simulators was running under Windows 98SE... :scratch-head:

I'm happy for you GT, it's nice when you find little snippets of information like that.

Let the games begin  :D

Oh no sorry, you are not a gamer, my bad  :(  :)

You're not the only one who misses 98SE, GT. :(

My cousin had a flight simulator he used with a Toshiba laptop,  it worked pretty well on his computer.  He also had some small remote control planes and there were a few places set up for flying the planes indoors. things have come a long way since my childhood.

Yes Carl2, Flight Simulator can run on any PC. But if we use many addons (especially some sceneries), better to have a gaming PC.

I'm not a gamer but, just for FS, why not? :D

If you are going to play Steam games on your PC and you want to enjoy them at their best then a gaming PC is essential.

Today an average gaming PC would be:

   i5 CPU

   8 GIG ram

   2 GIG graphics card

  SSD (no hard drive)

That will play your FS beautifully GT   8)

But before you buy it, post a link to the PC so we can check it's specs

Here to help GT :)

Thank you so much, Data. All the people who post vids of FS show their config and yes, some are very similar to yours (except the SSD). And I'd prefer to have a laptop (I know that all the gamers have a tower).

My other project was to buy a Mac. So it would be a gaming Mac. What! More expensive than a golden PC! :o
