Title: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Post by: Data on October 23, 2011, 14:26:32 PM
Did anyone here play Oblivion? I did and I loved it and now the long awaited sequel to Oblivion is almost upon us, the release date is the 11th of November 2011.

There is so much you could say about this game that really I think these two vids explain it much better than I could.

I don't know, there are some great games coming to the PC soon, which to get first?

Looking good.

Game is out on 11/11/11 then. All formats? Or just consols first?

Yup, all formats snowy  :P

But £11 less on PC  ;D

Looks cool, is it single player only.  Loved the Mammoths  8)

Yeah single player only Freddy, but be warned if its as good as Oblivion, and I get the feeling its even better, you will probably misplace a few weeks of your life  ???

I'm going to get this game, but probably going to get it around Christmas time, when I know I've got plenty of time to disappear from the real world  8)

Probably going to get LA Noire for now, think Mrs Data will be able to help me with the detective work  ;)

The hardest part of L.A.Noire is working out whether the perps are lying or not.
It's all done on facial expressions. To be honest, it's one of the bits I wasn't impressed with.
The other was trying to learn a controller setup for a 3rd person game with shooting. My fault for getting the PS3 version.

PC only for SkyRim.

I couldn't wait for Christmas, how can I have a new game sitting there in a box and not check it out?
How I thought I could wait is beyond me

To sum up, played it for 2 hours and it's Oblivion but not as we know it.

The only thing that I'm not that keen on is the new GUI, the Oblivion one was soo much nicer, have to blame the consol game boxes for that.

You're up with me on game play then, about 2 hours.

Been busy with other things. I'm off to buy some crockery now but I WILL be playing to the wee hours tonight.

Snowy, how many Nirnroot did you find on your way to the first village?
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Post by: Snowcrash on November 15, 2011, 23:00:36 PM
Sometimes I really hate you. In the nicest possible way.  ;D

I had found none but now have 3 but that's from around 2 villages.

Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Post by: Data on November 16, 2011, 10:58:21 AM
LOL

I found one on the way to the first village, think you might have missed that one, but right now I only have two, so you are ahead of me.

Performance

I've found that setting the view distance to Ultra is too much for my 1 GIG card and in places it's jerking out, for now I have the view distance down to high and all other settings at Ultra, nice and smooth now.

But there are tweaks...

Here is a link to the Steam forum with tweaks to Skyrim, basically using some of them can help match the game better to your machine.

I'm going to be having a play around with some of them later.

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2227329 (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2227329)

Note to Freddy.
Yup get a 2 GIG card, modern games are starting to need a 2 GiG for Ultra settings.

Noted  ;D

There is a little tweak for Skyrim that seems to be a must for gamers that have a 64 bit OS and at least 4 GIG of RAM, in short the game is made for 32 and 64 bit so the makers have set a limit to the amount of RAM the game users to 2 GIG, this tweak lets the game use more, I've been using it and I think there is a noticeable improvement when running around outside.

Snowy try it

I wonder if it'll help with the CTDs (crash to desktop)? They are getting annoying for me.

Will try and let you know.

I haven't had one crash since that small up-date from Steam, nor has it crashed with this tweak.

Mine didn't update though. Or not that I noticed.

You probably already have the first patch Snowy, sometimes Steam installs them on its own, behind your back.

Another patch is coming for Skyrim, due week beginning 28th November.

You have to admire Bethesda as a game manufacturer, they don't mess around when it comes to looking after their customers.

Good, good. I'm no longer getting CTDs so am happy.

As for "Fixed rare issue with dragons not properly giving souls after death"...

I have killed 2 X dragons and it says 'soul absorbed' but I have a shout that still doesn't work. I also have gained another word (my fourth shout) but haven't killed a dragon lately. I have 4 shouts and 7 words.

I did have a weird one where a bandit had killed 2 X travellers and when I came upon him he was fighting their horse. The horse was winning but I killed him anyway and it only seemed fitting to steal the horse.

I am upto about 14 nirnroots. Not found a quest for 'em yet.

HeHe, yeah good one Snowy

I've had a couple of the bugs from the list:

General functionality fixes related to remapping buttons and controls (PC)

And

Fixed rare issue with renaming enchanted weapons and armor

They will be gladly accepted by me

I've found something like 25 nirnroots but only have 21 left, been using them for some potions, haven't found a quest for them either but will keep hold of them just in case.

Up to level 40 now, but I know I have more time on my hands for playing than you Snowy.

I'm only level 18  :(

How are you doing with the 3 ring, claw activated doors?

I can't seem to find any clues as to the combination and have been reverting to trial and error, seeing as there are only 27 combinations.

The ones with the rotating stone pillars/plinths always have some clue in the room, even if they're not obvious.
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Post by: Data on November 30, 2011, 17:18:53 PM
I had a little trouble finding the combinations but then I spotted they are on the underside of the claws, look at the claw closely in your inventory

Getting that Red Dwarf 'back to reality' feeling again.

Been watching some of the episodes and it wasn't 'better than life' but 'back to reality' when you first encounter Dwain Dibbly.

Note to Snowy...

There are Nirnroot quests in the game, keep them  ;).

Also, I found a small pool of water that had 3 Nirns together  :o

Any clue as to where in the 19 sq miles that pool maybe?

I have found 2 on a mountainside, which is weird 'cos they're normally near water. I was running away from a bear at the time.

The pool is just above Evergreen Grove where there is a skills book and a few other goodies, have you found Evergreen Grove? Tell you what, there is a clue attached.

I found a huge amount of Nirnroots along the top of the map on the coast, just walk a few miles from one end to the other, without getting killed :'(  :D

Well believe it or not there is another Patch coming out for Skyrim.

Patch 1.3 will fix issues such as magic resistance not calculating properly and the rare, amazing backwards flying dragon.

I can't find an exact date for its release but it looks like its only a matter of a few days.

Thanks for the map.

I've killed another dragon and got it's soul but still have 2 shouts not working. Hmmmmm!

How many d'u have now?
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Post by: Data on December 05, 2011, 20:10:47 PM
I have 10 shouts and they all work, could it be that you haven't unlocked the new shouts with a dragon soul, I bet its is because I only recently found that out myself ;D.

Go to the shouts in the menu, look at the bottom of the page, there is an option down there to unlock shouts.

Very pretty landscape. The waterwheel is great. :)

I can't help but notice, however, that the texture of your armor is very, very similar to the texture of the shingles on the roof behind you. Coincidence? I'm not certain. :P

I have some nice mods in now that are dramatically improving the overall look and feel of the game, a few of them stand out from the crowd so I thought I would post them here.

To start with Dynavision, this mod adds a focal point to the camera and doesn't seem to have any impact on FPS that I can notice, all modern games seem to have a focal point for some reason Skyrim didn't.

I'm approaching level 81 in the game, it's at that level that you can reset your skills to keep you levelling up.

I'm level 61 and can't find much else I want to do. All seems to be side missions now. I found 9 of the Barenziah jewels. Looking at the wiki to find the other 15.
Are there any major missions after 'Dragonslayer'?

I don't think you have done the thieves guild or dark brotherhood missions, you need a good sneak skill and strong potions for them. Both are big story lines in the game.

Have you got the jester outfit jet? look out for Cicero  :P

Nice price @ £2.49  8) think I paid 10 x that but it was well worth it at the time.

Of course you will need your Dragon armour, shouldn't take more than 100 hours to make it, in all I think there is around 400 hours gameplay to be had if required.

It is a good game
