Looks like it might be good.

Looks amazing, like we mentioned in the other post.

http://www.datahopa.co.uk/forum/pc-games/watch-dogs-game-demo/ (http://www.datahopa.co.uk/forum/pc-games/watch-dogs-game-demo/)

If you don't get this game then you are not a gamer any more (Snowy)

It looks similar to the Assassins Creed 3 engine, by Ubisoft too, if it is then it,s going to need a pretty modern PC to be able to play it anywhere near the kind of graphics that we see in the videos. It was AC3 after all that made me upgrade my CPU, Mobo and RAM.

It looks like the release date has come forward to Summer this year, when I get it's actual date I will book a month off work to play this.  ;D

The official site says fall of 2013. (http://watchdogs.ubi.com/watchdogs/en-gb/home/)

This is one of the few games that has me interested. And I feel like I'm not a gamer any more.  :sign-sad:

Must have missed that first time around.  I agree though the environment looks amazing and the animation is very convincing.  Just from the video I get a feel for it's immersiveness.  One to put on the list.

Ok, after watching this trailer, I'm intrigued. Still not as much of a fan of gunplay than I used to be, but I'll look for it once I get the new system up and running. :)
Title: Re: Watch Dogs
Post by: Data on February 26, 2013, 17:40:57 PM
It's an open ended game which means you will be able to do what you want when you want, just explore the city if you like. Ubisoft are good at this type of game, at least they have been up to now.

Anyway Dave you don't have to use guns, a baseball bat would do just fine

Watch Dogs delayed  :(

Looks like there were a few bugs to iron out and to be fair Ubisoft games are normally pretty bug free on release, so it's going to be worth the wait.

If you believe all this then the system requirements are basically a gaming rig :

http://www.pcgamer.com/uk/2013/10/08/watch-dogs-system-requirements-announced-specify-64-bit-os-and-minimum-6-gb-of-ram/ (http://www.pcgamer.com/uk/2013/10/08/watch-dogs-system-requirements-announced-specify-64-bit-os-and-minimum-6-gb-of-ram/)

...which as a game I guess that fits...

But what do we think of the i7 for recommended CPU ?
Title: Re: Watch Dogs
Post by: Freddy on February 09, 2014, 00:19:52 AM
Found a useful site for comparing CPUs. I put my i5 up against the recommended Watch Dogs CPU, the i7

It appears to my untrained eyes that there is not a huge amount of difference.

http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/435/Intel_Core_i5_i5-4670_vs_Intel_Core_i7_i7-3770.html (http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/435/Intel_Core_i5_i5-4670_vs_Intel_Core_i7_i7-3770.html)
Title: Re: Watch Dogs

2%, 7%, 11%? Hardly worth notice. The 22% increase in memory intensive performance ~IS~ significant, though, and games like Watch Dogs are quite likely to be memory intensive (and I'm not talking about vid memory, which is completely different).
Title: Re: Watch Dogs
Post by: Data on February 09, 2014, 00:31:38 AM
The bit that is the most worrying for me is pixel shader 5 or better, this is a Direct X 11 game.

Min 6 GIG of RAM sounds good, explains why it needs 64 bit windows.

As for the i7, time will tell, the earlier i7's were slower than the latest i5's so I'm not really worried about it. Gut feeling says we will be fine.
Title: Re: Watch Dogs
Post by: Freddy on February 09, 2014, 00:41:06 AM
I think it will be fine too and yes Dave the memory thing did make me think.

Swings and roundabouts I think, but interesting and thought others might find it useful.

Data, this HD6870 has Shader Model 5.0

Title: Re: Watch Dogs
Post by: Freddy on February 09, 2014, 00:46:56 AM
The other thing is that even if you can't run it on top settings, most often you don't notice much difference if you drop it down a notch. At least that's what I have found with LOTRO - I can't tell the difference between high and ultra.
Title: Re: Watch Dogs
Post by: Data on February 09, 2014, 00:58:32 AM
Yes I know your card is pixel shader 5 Freddy  ;) , hehe good timing.

Talking of timing don't forget that we have some nice quick XMP RAM in our systems, we have a better memory bandwidth than an i7 off the shelf.  :D, I mean you can't beat 7.9 WEI so what kind of PC will they be expecting people to have to play the game.

Steam servers are normally up to the job when a new release comes out and if you get it on Steam you will be downloading come midnight, no need to sit by the letter box

I think I will get it on Steam, almost run out of space in my house to put the DVD boxes  :D and I really like the way Steam keeps the games together.

Glad you are thinking of getting it Freddy  :)
Title: Re: Watch Dogs

I think I will go for the DVD version still. It's £5.00 cheaper than on Steam. It's at least 30GB and that will take probably half a day to download on my connection. Mail comes at about 8 AM. I'm not one to fret about getting it quickly, but I do get tired of long downloads.

13.6GB doesn't seem a lot.

Anyway, good to see. Mine should be here tomorrow morning, I will install and patch if needed, but probably wont play till the afternoon some time. Don't get too far ahead  :D

I'm excited to see what my graphics card can do - this is my first next gen game  8)
Title: Re: Watch Dogs
Post by: Data on May 27, 2014, 13:24:15 PM
The game is playing really well on my i5 with the R9 270, what was that about needing an i7  :scratch-head:

Up to 11% gameplay and have just got my apartment.

The controls are a little tricky at first, if you are familiar with Assassins Creed then it shouldn't be a problem but if you are new to this type of game play it might take a while.

So a brace of questions regarding this bit of gameplay:

1.) Are there any downsides to being "hacked" while in single player?
2.) I noticed that the goal of this mode is to hack, but not kill, the chosen player. Is it possible to be killed in this way?
3.) If you ~CAN~ be killed by the individual hacking you, will that screw up your single player game at all?
4.) Doesn't this open up (re:killing, of course) a whole new form of griefing people?
5.) Is there any way to shut this off?

Ok, more than a couple of questions, but... :)

I will attempt to answer the questions Dave :)

1. Yes there is a downside to being hacked successfully, you lose some of your notoriety and notoriety is a kind of score that ranks you in world.

2. You can't be killed by the hacker, but if you are being hacked then one way to stop it is to kill the naughty hacker. (It's only a game though, he will come back to life)

3. I think 2 answers 3 but I will just add that notoriety doesn't seem to affect single player mode.

4. I don't think it could be classed as griefing for a number of reason but the main one is that the game will choose who you hack, you can't really pick on anyone.

5. Yes I have found that you can shut it off but then you lose all your notoriety that you might have got in racing for example, I have chosen to leave it on.

I will just add this, you only seem to get a hack attempt when you are free roaming in world, if you are on a mission then you don't get hacked.

Hope that helps  :)

Found out a little more.

Some things you do in single player game can take your phones firewall down, it is when your firewall is down that you can get hacked by other players.

Starting to make sense now.

Played another 3 hours last night, the game is running well with the patch, I have lost some of the audio data tapes that I had found in game but that doesn't really bother me, will just have to find them again.

The game does still have the very fast moving mouse in the menu, don't think that was patched.

Scratch that, I just found a setting for "Mouse menu speed" set mine to 20%, feels about right now
