Okay how would a motor cycle  do against an elec car ?
Carl2

Carl, would that be an old internal combustion engine motorcycle or a new electric motorcycle, oh yes they make electric bikes now.

Carl2

I was thinking of a gas motorcycle vs the elec car, I guess about any motorcycle can beat a car off the line until the car starts going but it seems the elec car has more power available at start.
The elec motorcycle is interesting never thought about them, looks and sound nice but the price is unrealistic.

A slight tangent but found this interesting.

I don't like to say "I told you so" but ...  :P

EV is the future, it's here now and it is here to stay, with solar panels on your roof and a good home battery you can even run the things for free.

Good vid though Snowy

My Leaf is charged up, going out for a nice smooth, quiet, cheap, green drive in the country.

QuoteIn May 2017, the UK reached a significant milestone when the total number of plug-in vehicles registered since 2012 reached over 100,000. That's almost a 3000% increase over the last 4 years.

The popularity of electric vehicles is rising and it's rising fast. In 2016 there were two million electric cars registered globally, with China, the US and Europe accounting for 90% of EV sales.

So it's going to become law that new electric cars will have to make the same sound as an ICE car to avoid hitting pedestrians, top tip, get an EV before the law comes in force and enjoy the silence while you can

The stupid people that make these laws didn't realise that new EV's will be able to see/detect people and stop before hitting them.

That's very polite, I hope they ask before hitting them too   :P

So let me see if I understand here. Pedestrians aren't paying attention, and some small percentage of drivers of EV's are also guilty of the same thing, so let's make ALL EV just as noisy as ICE vehicles? SERIOUSLY? I'd loudly complain that this is lunacy, except I fear that some US politician will hear me and think "we need that law here!". :sign-sad:

It's too late Dave  :( it will be law in the US in 2018 and in Europe 2019.

Hopefully with the UK leaving the EU we might be a bit smarter and realise the error of the law  :fingers-crossed:

Stupid, stupid stupid.

I can sort of see why EV need some sort of sound. The general public are, on a whole, stupid.

Why not make a noise on proximity? And under 30MPH. And regulations to state the noise is to be phased out as EVs become more popular.

Seems pointless to make a noise of 50dB+ when you're the only vehicle and there's no one around.

Found a hybrid I can lust after.

2020 sees VW making the Golf an EV / hybrid from the ground up. i.e. not retro fitted.

As hybrids go it looks pretty good, same mpg as a Golf TDi  :scratch-head:

I bet the servicing is on the expensive side, still needs oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, cam belt, the list goes on, lots to go wrong.

Charging lead looked awfully thin, but at least you can charge it at home, would still need to visit one of them places where people queue to put pipes in the car though, I forget what them places are called now.  :P

Keep lusting Snowy  :)

I just ran into 2 kids riding bikes down the road, I took a wide loop going around the and thought about the noise thing mentioned here, the damn things are silent.
I like the Golf which is now a hybrid, I looked at the Volkswagons before buying another car but VW was to high.
