A cab can easily do 1000 miles per week around town. This would be a great way to reduce pollution but would need vastly more fast chargers to be built. Starting with taxi ranks I guess.

100,000 mile warranty on a battery would be reached in 2 years though. eek.

I'm not sure that we would need vastly more fast chargers, 1000 miles a week is roughly 150 miles a day, EV's are coming that will do 200 miles per charge, the taxis will be able to charge at night at home. I think just a few fast chargers would do it just incase a taxi needs a quick 20 min top up, while he has his lunch for example.

I live with an EV and have done over 150 miles in a day, it's really not hard to do with my home 7kW charger.

I think that is a valid point. Though to date I have never heard of an EV battery being finished in 2 years ... yet

  I've gotten the impression that Japan and China are way ahead of the rest of the world in using EV's.  The last few years the winters have been so mild and now there is talk about loosing cities in Florida and other places because of rising waters.  Seems like that is what it will take before Americans wake up.

Carl I think your country is doing more for EV's than the press and media let on, you are slowly heading in the right direction. Much of it is down to the individual as well, if people can be convinced that EV's are actually really good cars they might seriously consider buying one.

Moving on from that I came across this video and was stunned by how much electricity was needed to refine oil into fuel, it's mind boggling, if we can stop using so much to refine the oil we would have a huge amount more to put directly into the EV's.

Bit of an eye opener, no?

Interesting figures. Must work out the CO2 per litre for generation of fuel.

I get the following wrong too, thought I'd post even though it's a bit off topic.

I've heard people misquote this on videos a few times.

The car battery is rated in kWh and the regen is rated in kW but sometimes they say, wrongly, that it's regening at 30kWh, where it should be 30kW.

I hope that's clear

I can't let this go by without mentioning it on the topic.

The 2018 Leaf has been unveiled.

First impressions:

It looks more like a "Normal Car".

They have gone back to analogue speedometer, why ? 

Nissan are trying to make the car more main stream in an effort to attract more people to the EV market. The new larger battery capacity of 40 KWH might also help with that.

A 60KWH version is also in the pipeline, maybe here in another years time.
