While Tesla may be thought of as a "losing enterprise", you have to admit that they've been leading the "charge" (pun intended) in tech evolution for the EV market. I just found this that I found very impressive:

Enjoy. :)

Thanks for that video Dave

I so admire what Tesla have achieved, the future is here now for the people that believe in EV's, on the same day they announced the new Roadster, 0 to 60 in 1.9 seconds and a range of over 600 miles.

Impressive stuff for those that can afford it but let's not forget the other manufactures who make EV's for the average people, these manufactures will bring EV's to everyone and the manufactures that don't will be left behind, I hope they are watching, Electric cars are coming, quietly but they are coming  ;)

Some more EV news including the Tesla Roadster:

Very nice video she put out, I was able to watch a few videos where someone bought a water damaged e car and was able to repair it, these are Tesla cars, I also came across a video where a Tesla had a slightly damaged rear door and the area behind the door, cost for repair was about 30,000.  Something about sensors.  Tesla has there own repair shops which they will sell parts to which some people don't like.  People trying to repair the water damaged vehicles are not allowed to buy parts.
I tried to find a dealer selling e cars, the link said this dealer sells e cars but in reality it did not, same with another link, no e cars.

Carl is there a Chevrolet dealer near you ? you could test drive a Bolt if there is.

DaveMorton

Possibly not, Data. Not all Chevy dealers have Bolts in stock.

How strange is that, they should at least have one there as a test drive car, they should also have a charging point in every dealership, no wonder Chevy aren't selling as many EV's as they would like.

In the UK I could stop at any Nissan dealership and get a charge, most of the time for free, Nissan do seem to be serious about EV's, I guess Chevy still have a way to go.

Chevy moved out of the city into the country, I was able to find a Volt in the drop down but when chosen there was no car, No Bolt listed.  A Chevy site will list and show the Bolt just a website though.  It has a 238 mile range, my car has about a 10 gal tank and gets about 180 miles.  Very low prices on the used small engine cars.
Here is a vid on the Bolt,

I like the Bolt, a lot, had my eye on it for a while, unfortunately it's not available in the UK and there are very few Chevy dealerships here so it's not even an option for us but if I was in the USA ...

sybershot

I would never buy a chevy volt, for 1 reason, they are a huge pain in the rear to work on. If another one ever pulls into my stall I will turn it down.

DaveMorton

We were actually discussing the full-on EV, named the BOLT, Syber, not the hybrid VOLT. Just sayin'. :P :D

Anyone serious about pollution needs to tackle trucks esp. semi-trucks (articulated lorry over here or 'artic' or heavy good vehicle, HGV).
Down to rolling out the numbers and economy of scale. And governments getting involved in building the other 99 giga factories to build the batteries.
Would love to see Tesla's tax return books.

Found some bits. Q3 last year saw a profit. Q4 was a loss. Link.

With this interesting bit...
QuoteLater this year, Tesla said it plans finalize locations for its third, fourth, and possibly a fifth Gigafactory. The company already has one Gigafactory in Nevada, where it makes batteries and will make Model 3 components, and a second factory in New York where it makes solar power products.

Q1 & Q2 were still a loss for 2017. Link.

But the guy is still building a business.

It's possible that Tesla aren't going to have it all their own way, hydrogen might well become the fuel of choice for trucks, ships and even some trains. It's just my opinion but that is where hydrogen might well play a part in the not-too-distant future.

Some more good news for EV owners in the UK, just announced yesterday.

QuoteThe Chancellor of the Exchequer has announced a £400million fund to develop electric car charging infrastructure across the UK, as part of a push towards electric and autonomous vehicles.

Quote
“Our future vehicles will be driverless but will be electric first,” said Philip Hammond, who also announced an extra £100m for the Plug-In Car Grant, which subsidises purchases of electric and hybrid vehicles, and £40m to go towards charging research.

I make that Shell, BP, E-ON and now the government all investing in charging infrastructures across the UK.  :sign-rock-on:

Soon no one will be able to say "you can't charge them anywhere  :very-angry:". even though you can already.  :D

But seriously this is going to be needed as more people wake up, see the light, breathe the clean air and switch to electric.

Freddy

It won't be soon enough for me unfortunately. I'm planning on buying a second hand car soon, but I can't afford electric. I've been off the road for a long time, so I figure my footprint is still minimal.
