The first thing I noticed is it was in California which is where most of the electric cars in the US are sold.  I've always liked the Jaguars but because of price, parts availability, and repair prices being high I'd stayed with American cars.  Nice car but I'm not wealthy.

Oh yes it's an expensive car for sure, maybe if we win the lottery  :D

parts availability,

That is something that is far less of a worry with EV's, less moving parts = less things to go wrong.

ICE car 3000 moving parts, electric car 300 moving parts, roughly.

Moving on, it's been pretty cold here recently and I've found myself using the pre-heat in the car, lovely getting in to a warm car  :) Normally I warm it up for 5 mins or so but how much power does it take from the battery ?

Note, you can use pre-heat while the car is on charge and take nothing from the battery.

Since I worked in electronics I've always been a fan of doing things electrically rather than some mechanically.  I'd have to say though the electric car isn't possible without the lithium battery which is actually chemistry.  The first time I heard of lithium it was being prescribed as a medicine.

It's the price of servicing all them moving parts and buying the expensive fuel that will finally kill of ICE, that's my hope anyway. Most people don't want to spend more than they have to. Money talks  ;)

Just going to post the latest FullyCharged vid:

Going to post these short videos, not really for our sites members but I've watched them all, I thought 3 was the best.

They are an easy to understand tutorial on owning an electric car.

I'm not terribly clever, but I manage.

I actually preferred the second video. I really like the idea of fitting streetlights with EV charge sockets, and think that would be a very cost effective way to add EV charging infrastructure quickly. It's kind of brilliant, really.

I probably agree with you there, the 3rd video made me laugh when Robert was driving the ICE car but yes, the 2nd vid explaining the charging of an EV does give some really good info and should help people understand that charging isn't an issue, charge the car mostly at home and use the satnav to find charging points on longer runs.

What a bright idea to have streetlight charging points  :D

DaveMorton

That more or less puts the infrastructure for charging EV's about 85% in place already, even here in the US. Even a Walmart parking lot could be EV friendly very easily and quickly! I've a streetlight right outside my house, and while I hate it for the light pollution it creates, if it had a couple of EV charging sockets on it, I almost wouldn't care about that (provided I had an EV, of course ;) ).

OK this is an advert but it's for a good cause  :D

The New 2018 Leaf.

DaveMorton

Nice advert, but I was really hoping for something... Longer? Meatier? Educational? Oh well. :)

Pretty lasses, though, so  for that. :P :D

Fair point Dave but don't worry, plenty more will come later  :P

For now a few pointers:

The American Leaf is made in the USA  :tick:

The British Leaf is made in the UK  :tick:

No monkeys were harmed in the making of the video or car  :tick:

No monkeys were harmed...

MONKEYS MUST BE HARMED!!!

Then the Leaf is not for you my friend, maybe look at Volkswagen :P

DaveMorton

I'm actually composing a new thread about that bit. I certainly don't wish to see primates harmed, but this political correctness thing must be stopped. It's going to be a bit of a long post, and more than a bit of a rant, but I feel it's important to get it out. It's going to be a few more minutes before I get it posted.
