Yes he played guitar for them for a while on different occasions.  Also well know as a solo artist.  Axe legend, blues...that kinda thing.

The 60's indeed. Although the answer is correct, the video is not as it is a cover version. However, as no video is available of Richie Valance actually performing this song, given that he died with Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper,well done Snowcrash.
