That's neat, so there is water there and other substances too, maybe now they will start to seriously think about some kind of moon base once we get out of this global recession.   

  I keep going back to the Water is needed for life, water must be present to support life so I keep thinking about the possibility of moon life.  The water is frozen so I'm not sure if this qualifies.  Never realized all this was happening until I read it.  I think Space is research and is tax deductable at least in the US.

There's water on the surface or just below the surface of the sun. I doubt there is moon or sun life. Liquid water is the normal pre-requisite for life. Frozen or at 5800C is not good enough.
The moon is a great place to be but no atmosphere.

We need space mining/manufacture technologies and various ways of boot strapping them to current tech. Until this happens we're stuck here or off for very short visits.

Water is needed for life, so if we want to make a permanent station on the moon, water will be very handy. There's also plenty on aluminium (aluminum for US, you actually use the UK spelling but we changed it to Euro spelling) in the regolith and you can make concrete with no water (apparently) with what you can find on the moon. We know how to get there relatively cheaply for materiel (takes 3 months -ish) and we've found a few sites to use existing underground tunnels to protect against the radiation.
Now all we need is the will to go back and a few trillion dollars and some new remote technologies.
Would be an ideal place for radio astonomy and launching point for generation ships. If only some of that sci-fi I read would come true.
