As many of you will already know, we have an Asteroid the size of an Olympic Swimming Pool heading our way. It is going to miss, but not by much, less than one LD.

Apparently you can track it live from 19:00 GMT here.

It WILL be fine !...

Cool, for me anyway. It appears the injuries were cause by the sonic boom blowing out windows.

QuoteThe defence ministry said it had identified a six metre crater near a lake in this region and has sent soldiers to the site of the impact.

The meteor hit less than a day before the asteroid 2012 DA14 is to make the closest recorded pass of an asteroid to the Earth - about 17,150 miles (28,000km). But the European Space Agency in a tweet said its experts had determined there was no connection

Just seen the slideshow.

That's one hell of a shock wave. Took out the wall of a zinc factory.

The end of the world 2012 is just a little late than expected.

With a little help from our friend God, maybe very soon. Bye for now...  :o

Snowcrash

The latest from the Bad Astronomer is that the explosion is estimated at the several 1000 tons of TNT range.

QuoteThere is still a lot we can glean from this event, but I suspect the best, and most lasting, lesson will be that the Universe is not necessarily friendly. It reminds of this sometimes, and we need to take that threat seriously. That this comes within hours of the passing of 2012 DA14 is actually a solid jolt that should make people sit up and take notice.

I did actually take the time to watch this stream live, not the most exciting thing I've ever watched but, hey, I'm not going to see that again in my lifetime.

Apparently there is a rather strong chance of this thing colliding with Earth in 2080, thankfully, I won't be around for that but, hopefully, Bruce Willis will be for the sake of our future gererations.
