Chaps sit back for an hour and watch this video, or be left behind  ;)

This "might" be the most important hour you spent this decade.

Tony Seba: Clean Disruption - Energy & Transportation

The vid makes me think of the book 1984,  I find it hard to believe that it will happen as quickly as he says but we'll see.  Seems hard to believe we have a lot of e cars driving around delivering people to destinations  but no one owns a car.

The computer revolution of the 1980's/90's happened in much the same way, and continues still. This guy makes a LOT more sense about this than those who are scoffing at the idea.

Great video, Data! Thanks for sharing. :)

I think Tony Seba does make a lot of sense in the video too and he is probably correct about much of what he is talking about. He does seem to be able to spot trends and accurately predict their outcomes.

I do struggle a bit with his idea of self ownership of cars being doomed, I know we are all set in our ways but driving a car can be a pleasure for many people and people don't like giving up their pleasures, many will fight it (probably me too). Yes most cars sit doing nothing for at least 90% of the time, I get that but moving to "you can no longer own a car" Hmmm  :-\

Certainly self driving cars for the elderly, disabled or people that can't or don't enjoy driving does sound like a great idea to me.

Top priority for me has to be cleaning up our towns and cities from vehicle fumes and I do believe we (the human race) can do this now  :)

Just bear in mind, Data, that he's talking about socio-economic trends, not laws. there will always be those who enjoy driving for the love of the act, just as there are those who enjoy riding a horse. There are no laws against the use of horses (except for some to keep horses off freeways, for safety reasons), and I expect the same thing to be true for cars in general (though in a few decades ICE cars may be banned for environmental reasons).

I noticed he uses a lot of economics in what he does but at the same time he said a car will cost about 10,000 per year, that sounds pretty high to me.  I'm not sure what will happen but for instance we have the e cig which I think is great but I very rarely see other people use them and cigs seem to be the thing people are smoking.  At least he didn't get into the transporter they use in Star Trek but that's probably going it to far.
I should watch it again

That's a future I could live with

Not where I live Carl, it has to be about 50/50 now, I see many people using e-cigs.

I also see EV's most days I go out, sometimes only 1 or 2 but other days maybe up to 10. EV's are not always easy to spot but if you know what to look for they are there, I mostly see Nissan Leaf's, Renault Zoe's, BMW i3's, Kia Soul's and sometimes a Tesla.

The up-take of EV's is happening in the UK, slower than I would like but it's happening :)
