During this past week-end, I have spent quite a lot of time with the Equestrian Types. During one conversation, I told one said Type that I knew only five things about Horses, 1) They Bite at one end, 2) They Shite out the other, 3) They have a piece of metal nailed onto each corner, 4) They Breakdown quite often and 5) They ain't the sharpest tool in the shed.

Said Type replied that I was quite correct and that was all I needed to know particularly with regard to item 5. He then stated that, "if it wasn't for humans, horses would be extinct".

Right or wrong ?, don't ask me, but it got me thinking. What else has the Human Race intervened in for the greater good, inadvertantly.

Your thoughts and ideas ?. 

We have wild horses here, even a small herd of them within a few miles of my house, and while I know they're not native to the area (The Spanish brought them over, in fact), they've settled in quite nicely over the centuries. These animals are quite obviously not the dullest tool in the shed, either, and don't need us Humans to care for them. So I would disagree that horses would be extinct without us. Maybe we bred them stupid over the centuries? It's a thought.

When you say they are Wild dave, do you mean they are not very Happy.  I don't really care if that statement is Right, Wrong or indifferent, I was just wondering if the Human Race has done any good at all ?. 

After all, we only hear about the destruction we are collectively causing our Planet, we must have something right somewhere surely.

Wild, they're livid having to fend for themselves.

In my experience, sheep are the dimmest of our animals.

My thoughts are that while people as individuals are rather intelligent, on average, Humans, as a whole, pretty well inhabit the shallow end of the gene pool when it comes to common sense. Get more than three folks together, and the old IQ drops noticeably. As you add more people, the effect increases exponentially. With alcohol involved, it increases geometrically. Remember those Dutch football fans with that rather pretty reporter?

I rest my case.

Actually, domesticated turkeys win the award for "stupidest non-human". There are documented reports of entire flocks of them looking up when it rained, to see what was hitting them, only to continue staring up till they drown.

I read about those turkey's Dave, I think I laughed when I read about them doing that.

We made plastic and some other synthetics plus we made GMO seeds and destroyed most of the rain forest Made a hole in our Ozone layer that is just terrible for the earth, Dough!!! you wanted to know good things hmmmmm wow I can't think of one thing that is not a selfish deed in one way or another that we do as a race that is good for the earth.

I guess dogs would go in with the horses then, as could other domesticated animals.
